Wendy L. D'Ambrosio - Mother of Camp Attendees

The programs and camps offered by the Collaborative are invaluable to middle school students in the surrounding counties.  I live in Wilson and both my daughters, Shannon age 13 and Carlin age 12, have attended camps at the Gateway Technology Center sponsored by the ECU/NCSU Collaborative.  Shannon has attended the NCSU Engineering Camp the past two summers. She was so excited about it after the first time that she persuaded her sister, Carlin, to attend last summer.  Carlin did not really understand what an engineer does prior to attending.  After the first day, she was talking non-stop about it and by the end of the week, was thinking of pursuing a career as an engineer.  They both learned problem-solving, analytical skills, and teamwork that will help them no matter what career they ultimately choose.  Both girls applied to attend the Vet Camp, only Shannon was accepted; but Carlin is going to apply again this summer.  Shannon was serious about becoming a vet before she attended and after attending is even more determined.  She now has a much clearer understanding of the roles vets play.  In both camps, the girls received hands-on experience in a supportive, encouraging environment.  To have the opportunity to be taught by the best and brightest students at NCSU and program directors such as Dr. Alan Cannedy of the NCSU Vet School is something that will continue to shape and influence Shannon and Carlin and the other attendees for years to come.  The ECU/NCSU Collaborative Camps show kids how what they learn during the school year applies in the real world, gets kids excited about their futures, and helps them formulate more concrete goals to further their education.  With a high high school drop out rate in our state, this program is key to keeping students engaged and in school.  We need to continue to support efforts such as the Collaborative that expose our children to critical professions such as engineering and veterinary medicine.    Commitment to our children's education must include supporting summer camps and programs such as the ones sponsored by the ECU/NCSU Collaborative.

Thank you for your continued support.

Ray Sullivan- NCSU Master in School Administration Program

"The Gateway Technology Center has provided a great opportunity for my career advancement through the cooperation and coordination of their own efforts and that of NC State.  The proximity to home and job made this doable.  Without The Gateway Technology Center and NC State working together I may not have been able to avail myself to this opportunity."

Alison Phlegar- ECU Master in Social Work Program

"I truly love coming to the Gateway Center.  It is so much easier as a non traditional student to not have to deal with parking issues, have all the classes in one location and know we have access to computers and other materials as needed.  I would much rather attend classes in this format than to have to be on campus again. "

Juan Perez-NCSU Engineering student, graduate of Nash Community College 2+2 Pre-engineering Program

"I've always wanted to be an electrical engineer.  Just recently has this dream been coming together through the 2+2 Pre-engineering program with NC State."

Jessica Levy-NCSU NC TEACH Program Graduate

"NC Teach has proven to be an invaluable asset to my teaching career. As a lateral entry teacher, I could not have been better prepared with real-world experience, planning, and support from real teachers through any other program, even traditional Education degree programs!  If you are considering teaching and you want to enter the field feeling adequately prepared with a broad base of knowledge, realistic expectations, and experience with educational approaches that really work, join NC Teach!

"The staff is friendly, easy to work with and always helpful.  I would recommend to anyone."

Sarah M. Hinton, MS, RD, LDN - NC Department of Public Instruction, Child Nutrition Services

"The Gateway Technology Center is an ideal meeting place for our quarterly Policy Updates for Child Nutrition Directors in our 12-county region.  It is centrally located and offers a very comfortable meeting space. The center provides the latest technology for meetings which eliminates bringing items and setting them up ourselves. The staff is extremely helpful and accommodating, which assures a successful meeting environment."

Michael Simmons, GCDF - Accountability Specialist,  Turning Point Work Force Development

I am thrilled that we have a facility like the Gateway Technology Center in our area. Not only does it provide access to distant learning from North Carolina State and East Carolina Universities, but also is an excellent facility for meetings and training sessions.   The Turning Point Workforce Development Board, staff and training providers have benefited from the outstanding cutting edge technology and features of the Center. We have been privileged to use the Media Center, Conference Room, Distance Learning Lab and Traditional Classroom. The Gateway Technology Center’s staff has always been very professional, accommodating and cordial. I highly recommend the Gateway Technology Center to anyone.
